Why I read this book
I spotted this book a few weeks ago while thrift store hunting. I noticed the striking black and red cover and just couldn't say no, I remembered this book catching my eye on Goodreads a few years ago, but I just never got around to reading it.
My thoughts
I went into this book not really knowing what to expect, I had seen a lot of mixed reviews on Goodreads, but still wanted to give it a fair chance. I have to say. . . I was pleasantly surprised with
how much I enjoyed this book. Now don’t get me wrong, Sisters Red wasn't perfect, there were definitely a few things that annoyed me throughout., however, by the end of the book I found it quite easy to look past the flaws to see that this was a lovely story.
Sisters Red is a charming retelling of the classic Little Red Riding Hood .One of my favourite things about the whole book, was the way Jackson Pearce portrayed the Fenris (Werewolves). She didn’t paint them to be soft, loving protectors, like I have seen in sooo many YA books lately. Instead, she portrayed them to be dark disgusting monsters, waiting in dark ally's to devour their pray each night.
There was plenty of action throughout this book, but Jackson Pearce still managed to keep it fresh and entertaining, it never once felt repetitive or boring.
One of the main things that really got on my nerves in this book was Scarlett's personality. . . I think the author wanted her to come across as protective and loving towards Rosie , however, I think she came across as controlling and overbearing
I really didn't enjoy the romance in this book, at the beginning it stared out really cute, but as we got further in, it turned kind of creepy. I’m totally fine with age gaps in book's normally, but this one felt weird . . . she was 16 and he was 21 (I don't know if any one else realised this, but that's illegal)
Overall Impressions – Good
This book was a really quick read. . . I would really recommend you give this book a chance if you enjoy YA fairytale retelling.
