Summery: Graphic novel star Kazu Kibuishi creates a world of terrible, man-eating demons, a mechanical rabbit, a talking fox, a giant robot---and two ordinary children on a mission.

After the tragic death of their father, Emily and Navin move with their mother to the home of her deceased great-grandfather, but the strange house proves to be dangerous. Before long, a sinister creature lures the kids' mom through a door in the basement. Em and Navin, desperate not to lose her, follow her into an underground world inhabited by demons, robots, and talking animals.

Eventually, they enlist the help of a small mechanical rabbit named Miskit. Together with Miskit, they face the most terrifying monster of all, and Em finally has the chance to save someone she loves.

Why I read this Comic
All the graphic novels I have read have been of the adult genre containing a lot of graphic content that had a lot of sex, blood and fighting in them. So I decided to have a change and read a Middle Grade Comic that is a lot more PG .

The Plot/ Story Line
This book was the perfect remedy after dealing with an angsty read, it was fun and fast to read. I really liked the way the author dealt with death in the book, he didn't gloss over it because it was aimed for younger people. I also really liked the way the children were spoke to as adult and the writing never seemed dumbed down because it is a middle grade book. The adventure point of this story was really fun, I loved the world that Kazu Kibuishi created with Amulet and I can’t wait for it to expand over the next few comics.

Emily – Main Female Protagonist
Emily was a really strong young female protagonist, it was really nice to see a girl as the main characters in an book centred around adventure and discovery. I feel that she would be a really good role model for younger girls. I loved her character design, the way she was drawn was great and I loved that she was given red hair.

The Illustrations
The illustrations were done by the author him self, you might already know Kazu Kibuishi is the illustrator of the new harry potter covers. .  .I as really impressed with the art featured in this comic. I loved the way the colours yellow, pink, blue and green were used throughout the book and the way the comic was done in complete colour which was very pleasing to see. .  .The character design of Miskit was super cute and charming.

Overall Impressions –  Really Interesting and different
This comic was really amazing, you need to read it. . . The illustrations were really incredible and full of colour.
