Over the past year or so, I've noticed such an increase of FanFiction authors publishing their story's as original fitction. So, I thought this would be the perfect time to give my say on the matter. Trust me, between Fifty shades of Grey and Twilight, there has become a HUGE stigma attached to the word fanfiction. I really think FanFiction authors have a really hard time when self publishing, as I feel that people judge the books before even reading them.
For example, a few months ago I was randomly searching Goodreads for some new up and coming books, when I noticed a book ( I forget the name) that had such a bad rating. So, being a naturally
down to see the reviews the first one said something along the lines of "Formally a Twilight FanFiction, Nuff Said" With a one star rating. <--- this person had never even read the book... I was shocked, I completely understand you saying you don't like a book, but please.
1. Read the book
2. Give constructive criticism.
3. Write more than one sentence
As soon as people see the word "Fanfction" I think they automatically envision a 13 year old girl, with no sense of grammar or spelling writing a book... trust me there are tons of them on the internet. But, what they forget to realize is that the archive on "Fanfiction.net" has a massive 6,600,000 titles that have been published on there site as of March 2011( Thanks ffnresearch for the stats) So I find it hard to believe that in all them 6,600,000+ story's there can't be a butt-load of little gems just waiting to be published.
When I review a book on Frilly I never say if it was previously a FanFiction. . . this automatically gives the book a bad rep... I think that if a book is good, it shouldn't matter what the origin of it is.
